Getting information from the web is like going to a newsagent and looking through dozens of magazines and papers to find what interests you. Then when you find a magazine that you like you have to keep going back to the newsagent to see if the latest edition is out and to buy it. RSS (Really Simple Syndication) acts like the newsagent delivering a subscription of your preferred magazines and newspapers to your door. You get all the latest news and articles without having to actively go out and get them. That makes life very easy, doesn’t it?

To use RSS you need a reader and you can get them free from Google, Yahoo and Bloglines, among many. When you visit a website that offers RSS you can then feed new articles or new threads to comments that you have subscribed to directly to your feed reader. It saves you having to visit all those sites and it saves you having to go through your e-mail to get the latest news.

It doesn’t take much effort to set up and it is not technically difficult to do. Just think of it as your friendly and reliable paper boy or girl (and also this way your newspaper won’t get wet and your dog won’t chew it up).
